Currency Conversion

Many alumni who do not spend much time in the muggle world have told how difficult they find to use muggle money. We have therefore provided several converters for the various currencies muggles use. There are also quick conversion tables you can use while shopping in the muggle world. May owls and e-mails have been sent to us asking such questions as:

• Why do muggles use so many different types of money?
• Why do they frequently use 100 as a multiple when everyone knows there 17 and 29 times table and this is so much simpler?
• Why use so many coins three is a much easier number?
• Why use bits of paper which are so susceptible to damage by potions, charms, and spells.

Never having specialized in muggle studies the content committee can not say. We leave this up to your research as one of the many puzzling features of muggle society.
